Arts integration in the classroom makes learning in math, science, social studies, and language arts meaningful and memorable. Students and teachers explore concepts together using all learning modalities - the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic sensory pathways.
Academic learning becomes fully engaging when explored through the senses, and the process of connecting conceptual learning with creative thinking leads students to critical thinking and authentic understanding.
The arts integration units in this collection were developed by ECT teaching artists in partnership with classroom teachers. They are based on standards-based curricula and designed to enhance both academic and social/emotional learning in the classroom. Units can be replicated in their entirety, or individual activities can used on their own. Enjoy!
"The beauty of this work is that it crosses the curriculum, it is not (only) the arts, it is science, math, social studies and English Language Arts, as well as addressing many of students social/emotional needs. For students to feel such joy, engagement and success in their day is our goal and one that is often difficult to reach with our typical approaches in schools.
